Elrod makes numerous ink on paper works that evolve from fleeting memories, visions, and fantasies. The images in the ink works often develop into mixed media paintings that explore painterly surfaces and layers as further presentations of embodiment. In this recent work, clothing and patterns appear to frame the figures and their parts, sometimes acting as architectural elements, other times as signifiers of performance or skin.
